Dear Friends,

        Konkan Railway Corporation Limited is the lifeline of Konkan region in particular and that of Nation at large. As such the trust and faith of millions of customers, be it passengers or bondholders or general populace along this Railway Line, is interlinked to the growth of the Corporation. It, therefore, gives me immense pleasure and pride to be the head of this organization.

        With the completion of 11 years of operational phase, we are marching ahead, creating new milestones and new benchmarks of efficiency. In the first year of operation i.e.1999-00 we could earn only Rs 20.4 crores from Freight and Rs 98 crores from Passenger Services. During 2008-09, achieving an earning of Rs 309 crores from Freight and Rs 248 crores from Passenger Services has given us new confidence. Creating Operating Surplus from the very first year of operation enabled us redeeming our bonds, so far we could redeem bonds worth Rs.228 crores.

         Passengers are our main focus and we are constantly upgrading the passenger amenities. Passenger amenities like FOB, High level PFs and Platform-Shelters were added at many stations. We are carrying out geo-safety work such as stabilization of slopes, making our tunnels more safer by Rock-bolting & short-creting. We have planted more than 29 lac saplings of Vetiver grass on slopes along the Konkan Railway Route to arrest soil erosion. The safety and security of passengers is of paramount importance to us, therefore, we have recently installed CCTV and Metal detectors at Madgaon & Thivim Stations. I am happy to say that there were no accidents for the last three years.

        Employees are engine of growth and backbone of the administration. The VIth Pay Commission recommendations have been implemented. Last year 15 staff were sent for one week training to Singapore & Malaysia. We will continue to give top priority for training and development of our staff. Various sports and cultural activities are also organized for the employees and their families to bring out their hidden talent as a welfare measure. .

        Financial Restructuring Proposal of Konkan Railway has been approved by the CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) on 04-12-2008. Restructuring of the finances would improve the Net Worth and Debt-Equity ratio of KRCL and make it into a profit earning organization soon..

        The work undertaken by KRCL in J&K project, Anti Collision Device and Telemedicine Projects on Indian Railways have been declared as National Projects. KRCL has been granted various patents on ACD and Skybus in India and abroad for their innovative work.

         Every year KRCL is organizing excursions/trips to Goa for children suffering from cancer of Tata Memorial Hospital from Mumbai to Goa and back. This gesture has been appreciated by one and all.
