KONKAN RLY LEADS THE ‘SWACHH RAIL – SWACHH BHARAT’ CAMPAIGN

Hon’ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu, emphasized ‘Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat’ in his Budget Speech. Konkan Railway has launched a scheme to collect the waste/garbage from Pantry Cars of all trains plying on KR route.

In order to encourage pantry car operators, Konkan Railway is launching an incentive scheme, whereby the Pantry Car Managers will be paid Rs.50 per bag of 20 Kg garbage.

'This step will help Konkan Railway to collect the waste generated in trains. On many occasions, it is noticed that garbage is thrown on track by Pantry Car staff.

Garbage will be collected separately as biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Konkan Railway is setting up two waste composting machines – one each at Ratnagiri and Madgaon. The bio-degradable waste will be turned into compost/manure in these waste composting machines. The non-biodegradable waste will be compressed and disposed off separately.
