Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu has laid a Foundation Stone for Multi Modal Logistics Park at Balli, inaugurated Coach Intermediate Overhauling Depot at Madgaon, commissioned Hand Held Device for issuing Platform Tickets and Ticket Checking Receipts as well as upgraded the Mango Pack House at Jamsande, Devgad, through remote control in a function held at Madgaon today.

Multi Modal Logistics Park at Balli Station of Konkan Railway.
In an historical event, Konkan Railway & Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR)  will be entering into MoU to set up a Multi Modal Logistics Park at Balli Railway Station, which will be first of its kind in Goa for which CONCOR will be initially investing ` 30 Cr to set up this Logistics Park. Konkan Railway will make available its vacant land to CONCOR at Balli for a nominal license fee & revenue sharing to set up this facility.
The facility will be initially spread over 94,000 square meters with a scope for expansion as the traffic may grow in future. This Logistics Park will be able to handle both Domestic and Exim Container Traffic. In addition to container traffic, commodities transported by both open and covered wagons can also be handled from here.
5000 square meters of Custom Bonded Warehousing space is being created in the first phase and a host of value added services like stuffing, repackaging etc will be available to its users.
Both Trade & Industry in Goa will greatly benefit from the economic transport solutions & state of the art facilities that CONCOR will be providing in partnership with Konkan Railway at this facility. In the first year of operations itself, the facility is likely to handle 15 rakes per  month.

Coach Intermediate Overhauling Depot at Madgaon
Coach Care Centre, Madgaon is the major Coaching Depot of KRCL, having total coach holding of 178 coaches which are being sent to Carriage Workshop, Hubli, South Western Railway for Periodical Overhauling (POH) once in 18 months. Besides POH, all bogies of these  coaches are to  be given Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) after nine months from the date of last POH at the nominated primary depot. All the newly built coaches are to be given IOH after one year of service. During IOH at Madgaon, coaches will be lifted, bogies will be taken out and  replaced by the overhauled bogies transported by Road  from Hubli Carriage Workshop, South Western Railway and necessary repair attention will be given for the coach interior as well as coach under gear system.

At present, IOH coaches are required to be  moved from Madgaon to Verna (12 KM) where such facility is available. With the commissioning of this Intermediate Overhauling Depot at Madgaon,  the timely placement and attention to the coaches can be undertaken efficiently. Thus, improving the safety, amenities and  comfort to our valued passengers. The newly constructed IOH shed will cost approx  ` 3 Cr.

Hand Held Ticketing Device for TTEs
In fulfillment of Hon'ble MR's Budget Announcement for the year 2016-17, Hand Held Ticketing Device for TTEs is being inaugurated by Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon'ble Minister for Railways. This Hand Held Device will facilitate Extension of Tickets, upgradation of class of journey, fare change difference, issuing EFT for journey not travelled or AC not working as also for allotting Lower Class Certificate, issuing Higher Class Travel Penalty / Without Ticket Penalty / Penalties for spitting, smoking, alcohol drinking, issuing Platform Tickets as also Regular UTS and Roll On – Roll Off Ticketing. This is a smart device with GPRS Connectivity, integrated with 3 inch thermal printer and works on Stand Alone Mode. The transactions made on this device are synchronized with the Central Server over the KR Network. This will replace the manual EFT Books of TTEs, which will be a great help them.

Mango Pack House at Jamsande Devgad :
The existing Mango Packing House at Jamsande, Devgad will be upgraded so that the consignment can be exported and supplied to various parts of the country in a proper packing without causing any damage to the fruit.
