KONKAN RAILWAY’S “SHIKSHA ABHIYAAN”

More than Eleven Thousand Villagers Reap Benefit

As its commitment towards embracing actions for encouraging a positive impact on the society, Konkan Railway has started “Konkan Rail Shiksha Abhiyan” on its route to spread Computer and English literacy amongst villagers along Konkan Railway route. The program has benefited 11,839 village children along Konkan Railway route till date. As many as 20 laptops and Notebooks and two mobile vans have been dedicated for this program by Konkan Railway. The program has sprouted from the vision of the Chairman & Managing Director of Konkan Railway, Shri Bhanu Prakash Tayal, to spread basic computer literacy amongst all.

Konkan Railway launched the “Shiksha Abhiyan” on 14/8/2011 at its various stations. The “Mobile Shiksha Abhiyan” was started on 12/5/2013 so that the benefits of the program can be reached out to villagers at their respective villages itself.

The “Shiksha Abhiyan” has been greatly appreciated by villagers and is benefitting them as they do not otherwise have access to Computers. While the hands-on training on Computers is instilling confidence in them, it is also opening a world of information to them. Syllabus is chalked out separately for children upto 9 yrs of age; between 10-15 yrs of age, and for those 15 yrs old and above. The training is conducted in 3 to 4 batches in a day. Training is provided for 10 weeks on weekends and a Certificate is issued to those who pass a simple exam at the end of training.

Staff from IT department of Konkan Railway conducts these programs. Local Station Superintendant coordinates with local village Sarpanchs or members of local organizations for conducting the program and spreading information amongst villagers to attend the training.

Basic knowledge of computers, hardware and software basic information, office application, paint application, Games, internet – theory as well as practical – is taught.

Some of the villages where the training programme has been organised are Ramnagara and Guddamadi Villages near Senapura Station, Belapu Vilage near Padubidri station, Krishnapura Village near Suratkal station, Fungus, Reel & Kolisara Villages near Ratnagiri station, and at Mangaon, Karanjadi, Diwankhavti, Kamathe, Bhoke, Aravali, Nandgaon, Sindhudurg, Balli, Manki and Barkur stations.
