This year marks a significant milestone for Konkan Railway as it proudly celebrates 34 years of dedicated service to the nation. To commemorate this momentous occasion, a celebration was organized on the 34th Foundation Day at Ravindra Bhavan, Madgaon, Goa.

Shri. Santosh Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director / Konkan Railway addressed the gathering & appreciated the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of the employees, emphasizing their role in the organization's continued success. He also highlighted several key accomplishments as mentioned below :

• Konkan Railway earned the highest ever profit of  ₹301.75 during the last financial year. 

• New projects valued at ₹1,700 crore have been secured, encompassing ₹850 crore for electrical works, ₹769 crore for engineering works, ₹69 crore for signal and telecom works, and ₹13 crore for mechanical works.

• An employment notification has been issued for 190 vacancies across various departments.

• The Track maintenance staff, pointsman, and other frontline workers who have played a crucial role in maintaining operational safety by promptly reporting any unusual incidents are being awarded On-spot Cash Awards as a token of appreciation for their invaluable contribution to ensuring the safety.

• Konkan Railway has been the proud recipient of numerous prestigious awards during this financial year few of which are as under:

  • Mahatma Award for Best ESG Practices by Mahatma Foundation.

  • Best PSU in Nation Building Award by Fun & Joy at Work.

  • Star of the Industry Award for Best ESG Practices by Fun & Joy at Work

  • Asian Leadership Award 2024 in the category Dream Company to work For by Fun & work at Work

• For outstanding performance in promoting the official language during 2023-24, Konkan Railway was awarded the prestigious "Narkas Rajbhasha Samman Puraskar"—First Place Rajbhasha Shield and Certificate—by Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai. 

• Konkan Railway was also honored with the "Adarsh Upakram" Rajbhasha Shield by Ashirvad-Sahityak , a social and cultural organization, for excellence in promoting the official language.

• Konkan Railway has also been Awarded the following ISO Certifications for Train Operation and Maintenance, and Construction of new railway infrastructure and other project activities at national and international level,

  • Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015)

  • Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018) and 

  • ISO certification in Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015)

  • ISO 27001:2022 certification for KRCL Information Security Management System to protect against cyber threats and proactive corrective actions, thereby reducing business security risks.

• The Ministry of Railways has approved an equity of  ₹1,486 crore for construction of Old Goa and Pernem Tunnels under Plan Head 61 – Investment in PSUs.

• A total of 304 special Ganpati trains were operated in coordination with zonal railways to effectively accommodate the increased demand of passengers during the festival.

• In response to passenger demand, a bi-weekly train service between Bandra Terminus and Madgaon was introduced on 29th August 2024. Additionally, the bi-weekly express service operating from Kacheguda to Mangaluru has been extended to Murudeshwar, from 11th October 2024.

• This year, rainfall has exceeded previous year's levels by 29%. As a result, train operations faced disruptions due to soil oozing on track in the Pernem tunnel and soil slip at the Natuwadi tunnel entrance. However, prompt action was taken to address these issues, resulting in swift resumption of train operation.

It is the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of all employees that have driven the remarkable progress and growth of the Corporation. In recognition of their dedication and exemplary performance, Awards and Commendation Certificates were distributed to Officers and Staff during the Foundation Day event. Additionally, the Chairman and Managing Director announced full ex-gratia payments of ₹17,951/- for all staff this year.

Konkan Railway remains steadfast in its 'Safety First' approach, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers along its route.
