Quick restoration

At 06:10 hrs on the morning of 24th August 2014, 08 loaded goods wagons  derailed at Karanjadi station of Konkan Railway.

Without any delay, Accident Relief Trains along with 140T Cranes were rushed from Goa on Konkan Railway and Kurla on Central Railway.

This was a major derailment, in which 500 metre of critical track along with point and crossing were completely damaged. This was a daunting task for Konkan Railway as the site was within a cutting and approaches of bridges and tunnels.

Konkan Railway team tackled the unprecedented challenge successfully and restored the traffic in 26 hrs. Movement of trains at site was initially restricted to 10 kmph.

For the convenience of passengers of long distance trains, Konkan Railway had organized transhipment between Khed and Veer by deploying more than 100 buses.  5822 number of passengers were moved for train Mangala  Lakshadweep Express-12618 / 12617, Goa Sampark Kranti Express-12450 / Kerala Sampark Kranti Express-12217 and Diva Sawantwadi Passenger -50105.

After restoration of traffic, challenge was to bounce back to normal working.

Task on hand was to change 270 concrete sleeper each weighing more than 300 kgs and replace 300 metre service rails by new rails.

The tough challenge was to continue repairs in the damaged section without stopping running of trains. Every day we ran about 50 passenger trains both in up and down direction. 200 labours continuously worked day and night to upgrade the speed from 10 kmph to 50 kmph.
