PRESS RELEASE KONKAN RLY RPF DURING 2014 RESCUES 54 RUNAWAY CHILDREN

In an act that shows the humane side of the men in uniform, as many as 54 children who had run away from their homes in the year 2014 (Jan-Dec, 2014), were rescued by the RPF of Konkan Railway. All the rescued children are below the age of 15 and were either found loitering at stations on Konkan Railway route or found travelling unaccompanied in trains. The rescued children were reunited with their parents wherever possible and others handed over to the Child Help Line. The children and their parents, when reunited, are also counselled by the RPF officials.

During the year, RPF also seized more than 35,000 liquor bottles, valued at more than Rs. 30.6 lakh, carried illegally in trains and at premises of different stations and handed these over to the State Excise department. RPF also registered 593 cases under the Railways Act against anti-social elements in Railway premises in the year 2014 and a total fine amount of Rs. 3,41,480/- was realized from the offenders. 183 cigarette smoking cases were also detected and a fine of Rs. 36,600/- was realised.
