Taking into account the various hardships being encountered by the people staying in and around Sawantwadi of Sindhudurg District, a Bhoomipoojan of the Sawantwadi Terminus was performed by Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon'ble MR in presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 27.06.2015 to mitigate their problems. It was announced by the Hon'ble Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhu during the Bhoomipoojan Ceremony that the work of Sawantwadi Terminus will be completed within a year.
Keeping up with this promise, Konkan Railway has left no stone unturned in completing the First Phase of Sawantwadi Terminus with a total cost of ` 11.42 Cr. This includes the work of new platform with Shed, New FOB & Two Additional Lines. The terminal platform has been provided with Tea Stall, water posts, announcement system and also covered under CCTV surveillance. In addition to the above, PRS Facilities at Station as well as at Post Office and additional Modular Shelters have already been provided for the convenience of our Esteemed Passengers.
At present the following trains both in Up and Down Direction halt at Sawantwadi Station:
1. 10103 / 10104 Mandovi Express
2. 10111 / 10112 Konkankanya Express
3. 11085 / 11086 Madgaon – LTT Double Decker Exp.
4. 16335 / 16336 Gandhidham – Nagarcoil Exp.
5. 12201 / 12202 LTT – Kochuveli Garib Rath Exp
6. 12431 / 12432 Trivandrum Rajdhani Exp
7. 12741 / 12742 Vasco – Patna Exp
8. 22149 / 22150 Pune – Ernakulam Express
9. 50101 / 50102 Madgaon – Ratnagiri Passenger
The following trains originate and terminate at Sawantwadi Station:
1.11003 / 11004 Dadar – Sawantwadi Rajyarani Exp
2. 50105 / 50106 Diva – Sawantwadi Passenger
3. 50107 / 50108 Madgaon – Sawantwadi Passenger
Taking into account the movement of Daily Passengers to the tune of 950, the stoppage of the above mentioned trains at Sawantwadi Station is considered to be sufficient as staggered halts have also been provided at the nearby stations for the convenience of passengers. Moreover, Konkan Railway is also running Special Trains during festive occasions as well as during Summer / Winters Seasons to cater for the extra rush to and fro Sawantwadi and even halts are also being provided to these Special Trains passing through Sawantwadi.
Subsequently, the construction of Phase–II is also in progress comprising of construction of Train Watering Arrangement, Terminal Building and Approach Road. This will be completed at a total cost of another ` 9.05 Cr.
Further, Shri Deepak Kesarkar, Hon'ble Guardian Minister of Sindhudurg District has announced that a Budget Hotel will be developed by the State Government for promoting Tourism.
It can be seen from the above that on completion of Phase–II, the long cherished dream of people of Sawantwadi will be fulfilled. Konkan Railway believes in providing better amenities and facilities to its esteemed passengers to make their journey comfortable and to ensure Customer Satisfaction.
