It was a long cherished dream of the people of Sawantwadi as well as the surrounding villages to have Sawantwadi Terminus facility. Keeping this in mind the Bhoomi Pujan of Phase-I of Sawantwadi Terminus was performed on 27.06.2015 by Hon’ble Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu and Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Devendra Fadnavis alongwith Shri Deepak Kesarkar, Hon'ble Guardian Minister of Sawantwadi, Hon’ble MP Shri Vinayak Raut and other Dignitaries. The Phase-I of Sawantwadi Terminus was constructed at a cost of ` 11.42 crores.

Taking into account the importance of the Sawantwadi Terminus and in order to augment the traffic facility, though it was a challenge within one year the Phase-I work was completed and inaugurated by Hon'ble MR remotely from Madgaon on 19.06.2016

In order to increase the facilities at Sawantwadi Terminus, the Hon’ble Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu has kindly sanctioned the work of Phase-II at a cost of ` 8.15 crores. The Phase-II will comprise of various facilities like terminus building with ticketing window, waiting hall, circulating area on Sawantwadi town side, new approach road with drive-in facility along the new platform and also train watering arrangement.

It can be seen from the above that full-fledged  Sawantwadi Terminus will not only fulfill the aspirations of the people of Sawantwadi and villages around and at the same time will promote tourism in this area as Sindhudurg district has been declared as Tourist District by the State Government of Maharashtra.

Konkan Railway is on a fast mode of progress under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu to fulfill the aspirations of the people on Konkan Railway route.  This will help the overall development and progress of the Konkan Region in particular and the Nation in general.
