KONKAN RAILWAY OBSERVES RAIL YATRI UPBHOKTA PAKHWADA

As a part of Rail Yatri Upbhokta Pakhwada, observed between 26th May to 9th June 2015, various activities as below were undertaken over the entire stretch of Konkan Railway.

Swachh Bharat Swachh Rail:
Senior officers of Konkan Railway were nominated as in-charges for each station for observing the Pakhwada.  200 nos. of brooms made from organic product and manufactured by the Self-Help Group were purchased and distributed to stations to carry out the cleanliness activities. In order to motivate the staff and colony residents cash prizes were announced under different categories. To adjudge these awards, three committees comprising of eminent rail users from the society were nominated for Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. These committees inspected the stations and has declared the following awards:

a) Best maintained Station Masters Office – Cash Prize of Rs.4000/- : The nominated Committees adjudged Sangameshwar station in Maharashtra, Madgaon Station in Goa and Kumta station in Karnataka for this award.

b) Best maintained Toilets at the station – Cash Prize of Rs.5000/- : The nominated Committees adjudged Sangameshwar Station in Maharashtra, Madgaon Station in Goa and Bhatkal station in Karnataka for this award.

c) Best maintained Retiring Rooms at the station – Cash Prize of Rs. 2000/- : The nominated committee selected Retiring Rooms at Karwar station for this award.

d) Best maintained stall at the station – Cash Prize of Rs. 2000/- : Tea Stalls at Kudal and Udupi Stations  were selected for this award.

e) Best maintained Level Crossing gate lodge – Cash Prize of Rs.2000/- : The nominated committee comprising of safety officers of Konkan Railway adjudged Level Crossing Gate – 20 in Maharashtra and Level Crossing Gate -63 in Karnataka for this award.

f) Best maintained House – cash Prize of Rs. 2000/- : Railway quarters of Shri Jangam of Ratnagiri colonyand  Shri Sheshgiri of Karwar Colony were selected for this award.

g) Best maintained Kitchen – Cash Prize of Rs.2000/- : Smt. Madale of Chiplun coloony and Smt. Sini Khosh of Karwar Colony were selected for this award.

The above prizes were distributed to the awardees at the hands of Shri Vinayak Raut, Hon’MP Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg in a function at Ratnagiri,  Shri Bhanu Tayal, CMD/KRCL at Madgaon and Smt. Bindu Muralidharan, Regional Railway Manager at Karwar

During the Pakhwada, Competitions were organised for Konkan Railway  employees’ children for making artifact from Waste material which received a overwhelming response. During this , talks were also organized for spreading awareness of ‘SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN’.

Konkan Railway has started distribution of garbage bags in coaches of Konkan Kanya  Express and Mandovi Express trains for collection of the garbage as a pilot project. Passengers were requested to collect the garbage (empty teacups, empty meal packets, bottles etc) in the garbage bags supplied. These bags were collected by the cleaning staff on the train. This helped a lot in keeping train, coaches & track neat and clean.

The Rail Yatri / Upbhokta Pakhwada was a grand success on Konkan Railway which believes in “Sadar Seva” to its valuable customers with a Smiling Face. Konkan Railway is committed to render best of its services in future too.
