HON'BLE MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS SHRI SURESH PRABHU LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR PROPOSED MIRJAN STATION

19-August-2016

Taking into account the inconvenience and hardships being faced by the people staying in and around Mirjan in Karwar (Uttar Kannada) District of Karnataka, Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu has laid the Foundation Stone for a new station at Mirjan, in order to make their dream come true for their comfortable journey on Konkan Railway Route.

This proposed New Mirjan station is situated between Gokarna and Kumta stations of Konkan Railway at KM 548.48 situated in Uttar Kannada District. It is adjacent to the NH 66. The new station reduces the distance between stations from present 19.091 kms to 11.539 km from Gokarna and 7.552 kms from Kumta. This Station will be constructed at a total cost of Rs.12.45 Cr. Once this station is commissioned the same will serve Bargi, Betkeli, Kodkani, Paduvani, Kimani, Divagi, Nagur and Ramnagar villages.  At present the commuters at Mirjan are dependent either on Gokarna or Kumta Railway stations for their conveyance to Mumbai, Bengaluru etc, for which they have to travel a lot by road both by taxi / bus as there is no direct connectivity. The proposed Mirjan Station will be provided with various passenger amenities such as platforms, waiting hall, current ticket booking counter, covered platform shelter etc.

With the construction of this station, it will help in the development of adjacent areas and will improve communication as well as connectivity amongst the adjoining villages, which will prove to be a great boon to the people residing in and around Mirjan. Konkan Railway always believes in providing better passenger amenities to its esteemed passengers for their comfortable, safe and happy journey.

This will improve operations and throughput on Konkan Railway as Kumta – Gokarna is the longest Block Section of 19 Kms on Konkan Railway.
