Inauguration of Free Wi-Fi facility at 28 Railway Stations and improved Passenger Amenities at Kudal & Chiplun Railway Stations on Konkan Railway

Konkan Railway took various initiatives under able guidance of Hon’ble Railway Minister for the upliftment of Konkan Region by way of providing more and more passenger amenities/facilities on its railway stations which has facilitated in making the journey more comfortable.  

(A)    Free Wi-Fi facility at 28 Railway Stations on Konkan Railway:

 Konkan Railway in its continued efforts and dedicated approach to community development and with a view to provide FREE Internet bandwidth to the rural areas of Konkan Region, Konkan Railway  has tied up with M/s SYSCON/JOISTER for provision of 2 Mbps peer to peer 24 hrs FREE Wi-Fi INTERNET bandwidth at  28 stations of Konkan Railway. This is an unique service being provided by Konkan Railway to its passengers. Hon’ble Minister of Railway Shri Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated  the said facility on 21/05/2017 in a function held at Kodal Railway Station.


In line with Government’s Digital India Initiative, M/s SYSCON/JOISTER are providing the JOISPOT brand Wi-Fi in Pune & Mumbai educational institutes in Maharashtra state and have now undertaken as  part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity of providing FREE Wi-Fi bandwidth to the rural area on the Konkan route.


JOISPOT  Free Wi-Fi mobile app provides 2 MBPS high speed Wireless internet with unlimited uploads. The highlights of FREE Wi-Fi Internet bandwidth provided at Konkan Railway stations are:


It covers the Station entrance and Circulating area.
To access the Free Wi-fi, user has to open the JOISPOT mobile app and register using his/her name and mobile number and request for One time password (OTP).
Un-limited FREE Wi-Fi facility will be provided at 28 stations from KOLAD to MADURE in the initial phase with a peer to peer speed of 2 Mbps.
The system can provide access to about 300 users at bigger stations and about 100 users at smaller stations.


This facility will  helps travelling public, commutes & tourists on Konkan Railway to access essential information and they could use their time productively while waiting for trains at railway stations. This initiative of corporation is a step towards making a smarter India.

 

Konkan Railway always believes in providing better passenger amenities to its passengers for their comfortable journey.

(B)     Inauguration of improved Passenger Amenities at Kudal & Chiplun Railway Stations

Chiplun and Kudal are two important stations on Konkan Railway route dealing approximate daily traffic of 5000 & 3200 respectively. Konkan Railway always believes in providing better passenger amenities to its passengers for their comfortable  journey. Keeping in view the same Konkan Railway has  improved/renovated the passenger amenities at these stations.

Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated the improved passenger amenities at Kudal Railway station  which includes Construction of VIP room, modification of entry to station building, Widening of platform No. 1 & 2, Provision of 12 nos. of modular shelters, Platform surfacing for platform no. 2 with interlocking paver blocks and full pale fencing, Dressing, construction of approach road to Foot Over Bridge,  Bio-toilet unit on platform No.1, Renovation of toilets at Kudal station, Provision of High Mast light  at an approximate cost of ` 108 Lakhs.

Hon'ble Minister for Railways has also inaugurated improved passenger amenities at Chiplun Railway Station through remote which includes , renovation of waiting hall with provision of stainless steel benches, 30 meter long additional conventional shelter on platform no 2, additional concrete benches on platforms, 15 modular shelters on both platforms, one additional bio-toilet unit on platform No. 2, Platform surfacing for platform no. 2 with interlocking paver blocks, provision of roof mounted Solar power plant of 25 KW, renovation of existing toilets, repair of approach roads in circulating area  at an approximate cost of ` 192 Lakhs.
