SWACHHTA-Hi-SEWA Pakhwara on Konkan Railway

Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji had always led a continuous struggle for cleanliness and sanitation throughout his life. The Gandhian movement for sanitation becomes a reference point for the attainment of the Swachh Bharat targets. To continue the legacy of Gandhiji, an initiative under the guidance of Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Piyush Goyal, Konkan Railway formulated an Action Plan to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October 2018 for bringing quantum improvement in the cleanliness at the railway stations and trains.

During the Swachhata Hi Sewa Pakhwara held from 15th September 2018 to 02nd October 2018, various activities were undertaken by Konkan Railway over its route. All Konkan Railway Executives and Staff participated in the cleanliness activities with great enthusiasm.

Swachhata Hi Sewa Pakhwara on Konkan Railway  began  with a Swachhata Pledge by Shri. Sanjay Gupta Chairman and Managing Director, Konkan Railway along with Executives and Staff at Konkan Railway Colony, Nerul and all stations over the Konkan Railway route. Shramdhan was done at Railway Colony and Konkan Railway Stations.

Swachh Samwad, Cleanliness Awareness Programs like Nukkad Nataks, Drawing competition for school children were organised at Stations to spread awareness on cleanliness.  Mechanized cleaning workshops were held at Ratnagiri and Madgaon. Stations.  An awareness and  registration drive was held at Ratnagiri for the contract labourers to enroll them under “Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana & Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana” in which Zonal Contractor, P-Way & Non P-Way contractors, Station House keeping contractors and Running Room Contractors actively participated. Anti Littering notices were pasted in coaches, Running Rooms and Health Units.

Swachh Station - Intensive Cleanliness drive at all stations, level crossings was untertaken by Konkan Railway Officials along with their supervisors, staff, Cleaning Contract persons, vendors and station staff.

Swachh Railgadi - Intensive cleaning undertaken in trains, including pantry cars and base kitchens. Konkan Railway Officials inspected the pantry cars to ensure that food being served to passengers is being prepared in hygienic environment. Feedback was taken from passengers travelling in trains running on Konkan Railway route.

Community Day / Sewa Diwas - Shramdan was done by Executives and staff in the surrounding area of station premises. NGO’s, NSS units, and students of schools and Colleges were actively contributed in the cleanliness Drive.

Swachh Parisar - Cleanliness drives were undertaken by Executives and staff in the  Railway colonies, Retiring rooms, and Dormitories. Shri. Sanjay Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director/KRCL, also participated in the drive to ensure cleanliness at the stations. As an initiative for maintaining a cleaner and greener surrounding tree plantations drive was undertaken over the Konkan Railway route.

Swachh Ahar - Intensive drive has been undertaken to ensure cleanliness at all the stalls on Konkan railway stations. Inspections were carried out by Railway officials at all the catering stalls, Base kitchens to ensure clean and hygenic food.

Swachh Neer - Intensive cleanliness drive and Inspections were carried out at all water installations, water supply sources at stations, offices, Railway colonies to ensure availability of Swachh Neer to passengers.

Swachh Prasadhan -  A special drive has been taken up at all the stations to ensure the cleanliness of toilets and bathrooms.

Konkan Railway always strives in making our passengers journey a pleasurable one. Thanks to all the passengers, Students, NGO’s for their significant contribution  in making  the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” Campaign a grand success.
