KRCL Continues Safety Focus with Intra Railway Audit of Karwar Region

Konkan Railway continues to accord highest priority to safety, ensuring that its systems, assets, and operational practices are continuously monitored and enhanced through regular audits. As part of this commitment, Intra Railway Safety Audits are periodically undertaken across all regions to assess readiness, identify potential risks, and reinforce standardised procedures that support safe and reliable train operations. In line with Railway Board directives, the Intra Railway Safety Audit of the Karwar Region was conducted on 11th and 12th November 2025.

The audit was carried out by a multidisciplinary team from the headquarters, comprising officers from the Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal & Telecom, and Traffic Departments, led by the Chief Safety Officer (CSO). They were assisted by a team of Regional Officers headed by Regional Railway Manager (RRM/Karwar) to ensure smooth execution of the audit. The team inspected various safety assets and installations and also reviewed the disaster preparedness of the Self-Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) and the Accident Relief Train (ART) stationed at Verna.

Similar to the Intra Railway Safety Audit of the Ratnagiri Region conducted in June 2025, this audit facilitates systematic improvements and promotes uniformity in work practices across regions. Good practices followed by other Zonal Railways were also examined for possible adoption. Intra Railway Safety Audits are conducted in addition to the Inter-Zonal Railway Safety Audits, which are undertaken twice a year in each region by Zonal Railways nominated by the Railway Board.

Konkan Railway remains committed to ensuring safe and reliable train operations. Regular audits play a crucial role in strengthening systems, improving preparedness, and maintaining consistent safety standards. The findings from the Karwar Region audit will further contribute to enhancing day-to-day operations and reinforcing KRCL’s unwavering focus on safety.
