Joint Mock Exercise on Disaster Management Conducted by KRCL & NDRF at Gangavali River

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), successfully conducted a joint mock exercise on disaster management and rescue operations at River Bridge No. 1504, located at Shiroor village on the Gangavali River between Gokarna Road–Ankola section.

The exercise was designed to assess preparedness, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and evaluate response capabilities during emergency situations in riverine and bridge environments. Following rescue scenarios were created as part of the drill.

  • Rescue of drowning persons from water.
  • Underwater rescue operations with deep divers.
  • Vertical lifting of victims from water.
  • On-site medical assistance to rescued persons.
  • Evacuation of stranded individuals from the bridge by the Fire Brigade.

KRCL teams also demonstrated rescue operations using the Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) raft, including retrieval of drowning persons and vertical lifting operations on the bridge.

The mock drill witnessed active participation from various local agencies, including the District Disaster Management Cell, Taluka Medical Team, State Police, Fire Brigade personnel, and the Village Panchayat authorities, ensuring a holistic and coordinated approach to emergency response.

The exercise concluded successfully, reflecting the joint commitment of KRCL and NDRF to strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring passenger safety across the Konkan Railway network
