Konkan Railway Records a Year of Milestones in Connectivity, Safety and Service: Progress Powered by Commitment

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) proudly marks a milestone year of excellence, innovation, and service, steadfastly advancing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat. Guided by this vision, KRCL has significantly enhanced connectivity, safety, and sustainability across the scenic Konkan region, contributing to economic growth and national integration.

This year’s achievements reflect our commitment to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ through world-class rail infrastructure, in alignment with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision. said Shri Santosh Kumar Jha, Chairman & Managing Director / KRCL.

Aligned with the guidance of the Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways, KRCL continues to advance key initiatives focused on infrastructure development, technological adoption, and enhanced passenger services, reinforcing its role as a vital link in India’s railway network. 

Operational Highlights

  • Registered a significant increase in passenger traffic across the network.
  • Recorded the highest-ever ticket checking revenue of ₹27.59 crore during last financial year.
  • Flagged off Dev Darshan Special Train, including 6 FTR services connecting Ranjangaon, Ayodhya, and Rameshwaram.

     

Engineering and Infrastructure Achievements

  • Achieved a milestone in the completion of USBRL Project, by strengthening national connectivity.
  • Upgraded Bridges, Tunnels, and Signaling systems to enhance safety and operational reliability across challenging terrain.
  • Enhanced RoRo carrying capacity from 50 MT to 57 MT, resulting in improved freight efficiency.
  • Extension of Road-6 line at Madgaon station for loco reversal, enhancing operational efficiency and contributing to overall capacity enhancement.
  • Pioneered innovative solutions such as drone-based track monitoring, significantly reducing maintenance downtime. 

 

Passenger-Centric Initiatives

  • During the last financial year, a total of 1,400 special train services were operated on various occasions, comprising 376 Ganpati Special Trains, 185 Summer Special Trains, 86 Winter Special Trains, 38 FTR (Full Tariff Rate) services, and 715 Other Special Services.
  • Enhanced accessibility for Divyangjan through provision of Ramps, Braille signage, and Upgraded signage boards at Karmali, Thivim, Karwar, Murdeshwar and Udupi stations, in line with the latest guidelines.
  • Conducted Railway Awareness Drives covering 730 School students.
  • Ganapati festival initiatives (First time in KR):

○ Decorative festival stalls with Rangolis & Lights

○ Yatri Sahayak booths

○ Free water distribution

○ Health assistance booths 

○ Cultural programs by local artists

  • Strengthened station infrastructure:
  • Executive Lounge / AC Lounge facilities made available at 10 stations (Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Thivim, Karmali, Madgaon, Karwar, Mookambika Road Byndoor, and Udupi)
  • Rail Arcade contracts awarded at Sawantwadi Road and Ratnagiri.
  • Digi Locker facilities provided at Ratnagiri, Thivim & Udupi. 
  • Construction of Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Vaibhavwadi Road.
  • Development of High-level platforms at Kumta and Gokarna.
  • Platform shelter and Platform surfacing works completed at Surathkal, Udupi, and Mulki stations.

 

Technology & Sustainability

  • Generated 3.67 lakh kilowatt-hours of Solar Power, resulting in savings of approximately ₹45.94 lakh.


Safety & Security Initiatives

  • Enhanced Security Measures: A total of 92 theft cases were successfully registered, leading to the recovery of stolen assets valued at ₹35.73 lakh, strengthening vigilance and asset protection across the network.
  • Successfully rescued 90 Runaway children, reinforcing passenger safety and social responsibility
  • Improved Safety Infrastructure with approximately 2,700 meters of Cattle Run-Over (CRO) prevention fencing was installed in the Karwar region and Ratnagiri region significantly enhancing operational safety and reducing risks of animal-related incidents on tracks.
  • Expanded CCTV surveillance:
    • New installations at stations: Kalambani Budruk, Kadavai, Kharepatan Road, Achirne, Mirjan.
    • Upgradation at stations: Indapur, Goregaon Road, Sape-Wamne, Veravali, Innanje and (1 halt station) Mookambika Road Byndoor.
