Flagging Off of Train No. 10109 Madgaon – Karwar Express

Enhancing rail connectivity and improving passenger mobility are key priorities in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister. Under the able guidance of Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Konkan Railway continues to strengthen regional connectivity and improve passenger services.

Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, along with Hon’ble Minister for P.W.D, Ports and Legal Metrology, Government of Goa, Shri Digambar Kamat flagged off the Train No. 10109 Madgaon – Karwar Express from Madgaon Station on 11.06.2026. The event was attended by Shri Rajeev Kumar Mishra, Director (Way & Works)/KRCL, Ms. Asha Shetty, RRM/Karwar, Senior Officials, Staff members, Representatives of Print, Electronic Media and General Public. 


Train No. 10109 / 10110 Madgaon - Karwar - Madgaon Express has been introduced to enhance rail connectivity between Goa and the coastal region of Karnataka. The new train service will provide improved travel options for passengers, facilitate regional mobility and strengthen connectivity along the Konkan Railway corridor. The service is expected to benefit commuters, students, tourists, business travellers and local residents by offering a convenient and efficient mode of transportation. 

Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna stated that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 remains a key priority, with Indian Railways serving as one of its important pillars. He informed that the Railway Budget allocation for Goa for F.Y 2026-27 stands at ₹515 crore, which is higher than the allocation of ₹482 crore during F.Y 2025-26.

Highlighting the progress made in railway infrastructure development in Goa, he noted that during the period 2014–2026, 24 km of railway line has been constructed, 164 km of railway electrification has been completed, and 12 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) have been constructed at a cost of approximately ₹150 crore. He further stated that 02 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains are currently operating from Goa State. Additionally, 03 ROBs have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore.

Further he informed that Madgaon, Sanvordem and Vasco da Gama railway stations have been identified for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. In this regard, the master plan for the redevelopment of Madgaon Railway Station is presently under preparation. The redevelopment initiative aims to enhance station infrastructure and passenger amenities, providing a modern and improved travel experience for passengers.
