Konkan Railway observes Special Campaign 5.0 with sustainable initiatives
Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has been actively observing Special Campaign 5.0 and ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025’, aligning with Indian Railways’ nationwide drive to promote cleanliness, sustainability and community participation. Through innovative initiatives across the regions, Konkan Railway continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental responsibility and public awareness.
At Konkan Rail Vihar, Nerul, Shri Santosh Kumar Jha, CMD/KRCL, along with Smt. Manisha Jha, Chairperson of KRWC & SSA, Directors, other officials and members of KRWC & SSA, participated in Prabhat Pheri, Shramdaan, and Tree plantation drive. A similar event was organized at Ratnagiri, where CMD/KRCL along with ED (B&O)/KRCL, CPO/KRCL, RRM/Ratnagiri and other executives joined hands for a Tree plantation drive promoting environmental sustainability.
Under Special Campaign 5.0, KRCL launched innovative “Best out of Waste” initiatives including a cattle guard fabricated from 100 mm GI pipes at Thivim Station and paper bag distribution at Ratnagiri Station to curb single-use plastics. In collaboration with Lions International District 317B, MES College, and IPHB Goa, skits and rallies at Madgaon and Karmali Stations under UNSDG #3 on Good Health and Well-being, raising awareness on cleanliness, mental health, and public health.
Under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025’, Konkan Railway conducted multiple cleanliness drives and awareness activities across the Ratnagiri and Karwar regions, including the Corporate Office in Belapur. Officers, Employees, families, and students took the Swachhata Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to a cleaner future. The Ratnagiri Health Unit also organized initiatives such as “सफाई मित्र – सुरक्षा शिविर”, vaccination drives, ANC check-ups, and counselling sessions.
Several community and station-level cleanliness drives were conducted to promote hygiene and sustainability. A cleanliness inspection of the pantry on Train No. 10103 ensured hygiene, safety, and an improved passenger experience. The ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ Shramdaan at Chiplun and Verna Stations actively engaged employees and their families. Additional drives were held by Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye College, Pernem, and the Konkan Rail Academy, Madgaon, to instill responsibility among trainees. Additional cleanliness drives were conducted at Balli Station in collaboration with NIT Goa and at Barkur Station by students of Smt. Rukmini Shedthi Memorial Government First Grade College & PG Study Centre, further strengthening community involvement and promoting sustainability.
‘Amrit Samwad’ sessions were organized on multiple occasions across the Ratnagiri region, where RRM Ratnagiri and other officials engaged with passengers, employees, and their families on station upgrades, cleanliness, and passenger amenities, encouraging public participation and fostering progress.
Through these multifaceted initiatives, Konkan Railway continues to uphold the vision of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, integrating innovation, sustainability and public participation into its operations, contributing to a cleaner, greener and healthier India.
