Taking into account the various hardships being encountered by the people staying in and around Sawantwadi of Sindhudurg District, a Bhoomipoojan of the Sawantwadi Terminus was performed by Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon'ble MR in presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 27.06.2015 to mitigate their problems. It was announced by the Hon'ble Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhu during the Bhoomipoojan Ceremony that the work of Sawantwadi Terminus will be completed within a year.

          
Good news for passengers !! It has been decided to run  Special  Trains during Ganpati Festival to clear extra rush of passengers in co-ordination wirth Central Railway. Details of trains services are given as under :-

Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu has laid a Foundation Stone for Multi Modal Logistics Park at Balli, inaugurated Coach Intermediate Overhauling Depot at Madgaon, commissioned Hand Held Device for issuing Platform Tickets and Ticket Checking Receipts as well as upgraded the Mango Pack House at Jamsande, Devgad, through remote control in a function held at Madgaon today.

With the announcement of proposed Kharepatan Station on the KR Route, the dream of the people staying in and around Kharepatan as well as surrounding areas will be fulfilled with the laying of Foundation Stone for the same by the Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu. This was a long cherished dream of the people in Konkan Region.

 Uptil now, Orthopaedically Handicapped, Paraplegic Persons / Patients who were availing Rail Travel Concessions, if found travelling alone without an Escort, which was mandatory, were treated as travelling without ticket and were being charged with penalty as per the applicable rules issued from Ministry of Railways.

           
In terms of the instructions received from Ministry of Railways, Konkan Railway is observing “Rail Hamsafar Saptaah” from 26th May to 1st June 2016.

1) Permanent augmentation of one AC 2 tier Coach to Train no. 12617 Ernakulam – Nizammuddin - Mangala Express  w.e.f. 19.06.2016.

2) Permanent augmentation of one AC 2 tier Coach to Train no. 12618  Nizammuddin - Ernakulam Mangala Express  w.e.f. 22.06.2016.
