Konkan Railway celebrates Republic Day - 2025
Konkan Railway Corporation Limited celebrated the 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm and pride, reflecting on the rich legacy of India’s freedom fighters and the Nation’s progress. This day is particularly special for Konkan Railway as it marks 26 years since the first train was flagged off on its completed track. On this occasion, Shri Santosh Kumar Jha / CMD KRCL extended heartfelt congratulations to the entire Konkan Railway family for their relentless dedication to the organization’s growth and success. As part of the celebrations, he inspected the Railway Protection Force (RPF) contingent at Konkan Rail Vihar, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
Highlighting the corporation’s progress, CMD KRCL shared that in the calendar year 2024, Konkan Railway achieved remarkable financial milestones:
- ₹1,793 crore revenue from traffic.
- ₹2,361 crore income from projects.
The following are a few noteworthy accomplishments
- In 2024, 03 new train services were flagged off on KR route
- Train no. 10115 / 10116 Bandra (T) - Madgaon Jn. - Bandra (T) Bi-Weekly Express was flagged off on 03rd September 2024.
- Train no. 17039 / 17040 Secunderabad - Vasco Da Gama - Secunderabad Bi-Weekly Express was introduced on 09.10.2024 Majorda - Madgaon Section on 09th October 2024.
- Train no. 12789 / 12790 Kacheguda - Mangaluru Central - Kacheguda Bi-Weekly was extended upto Murdeshwar station on 12th October 2024
- A total of 19,957 passenger trains were operated over KR route during 2024, reflecting an 8% increase compared to 18,465 trains in the previous year. Passenger coaching revenue rose to ₹1,069.58 crore, a 5% increase over the previous year’s earnings of ₹1,019.02 crore.
- 1,178 special coaching trains were operated over KR route during the year, including 304 Ganpati Specials. During the Ganpati festival, Konkan Railway achieved an earning of ₹4.77 crore through UTS, marking a significant growth of 16.17% compared to the same period last year.
- To enhance passenger convenience, world-class Executive Lounges have been set up at five stations: Madgaon, Thivim, Udupi, Chiplun, and Khed. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce these facilities at two more stations, Ratnagiri and Mookambika Road Byndoor.
- Revenue from ticket checking surged to ₹22.46 crore in 2024, reflecting a significant 15% increase compared to ₹19.18 crore earned in 2023.
- Dynamic QR code scanners have been installed at UTS counters across all stations, enhancing the ticketing experience. Additionally, Fare Repeater QR devices have been introduced at nine stations, streamlining the UTS ticketing system for greater efficiency and convenience.
- A Rail Arcade was inaugurated at Madgaon Railway Station, offering passengers a blend of convenience and comfort. The arcade features a modern food plaza with 14 stalls showcasing renowned food brands and regional delicacies, enhancing the travel experience. Additionally, a dedicated tour and travel booking office has been included, catering to the diverse needs of travelers.
- Currently, 85-90% of trains on Konkan Railway operate on electric traction, leading to a substantial fuel cost savings of approximately ₹279.14 crore.
- Konkan Railway has successfully secured approval for 12 electrical works valued at ₹1,056 crore.
- From January to December 2024, solar plants with a combined capacity of 660 kW generated 4.24 lakh units of electricity. This sustainable energy initiative resulted in significant savings of ₹55.13 lakh on energy bills.
- A new contract valued at ₹23.80 crore has been signed with Nepal Railways for the operation and maintenance of DEMU train services on the cross-border railway system between the Jayanagar-Bijalpura section.
- From January to December 2024, weld failures decreased by 21%, a significant improvement attributed to the completion of 57 km of Complete Track Renewal (CTR) and 15 km of Through Weld Renewal (TWR). In total, 98 km of CTR and 180 km of TWR have been successfully completed, contributing to enhanced track integrity and safety.
- Several training programs were conducted for internal and external participants at Konkan Railway Academy (KRA), George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology (GFITT) and Ramakrishna Hegde Skill Development Centre (RHSDC). Due to high demand new courses introduced at GFITT. For the first time, IIT students participated in training at KRA and 419 Engineering students were trained under SEPS program at KRA. This resulted in an earning of ₹2.26 crore in revenue.
As part of the Republic Day celebrations, a series of competitions, including Fancy Dress, Mobile Photography and Drawing, were organized for employees and their families. The prize distribution ceremony was held during the Republic Day festivities. Similar celebrations, including these engaging activities, were also conducted in the Ratnagiri and Karwar regions of Konkan Railway
